Description
In this issue of LakeLine, you will see that dam removal is becoming a more common event, and the projects range from large to small. Most of the projects are expensive and have many intended and unintended consequences. Dam removal projects are occurring globally and they are being done for many reasons, ranging from returning river systems to their natural state, to removing hazard dams, because a dam is no longer needed, or to mitigate negative ecological, physical, and hydrologic impacts that result from the presence of dams. This issue will explore various elements related to dam removal, including ecological, financial, technical and regulatory aspects of such projects.
