Resource Professional or Senior – Water Quality

While this position is based at Idaho Power’s downtown Boise location, we offer both flexible schedules and the opportunity to work up to 40% remote. Relocation assistance may also be provided to the successful candidate.

What does a Resource Professional or Senior – Water Quality do for us?

Operating under limited supervision and oversight, a Resource Professional or Senior has an intermediate to comprehensive level of natural resource management expertise in their field. This role plans and leads projects that are of varied complexity. This role increasingly interfaces with internal departments and external organizations with increasing experience. They receive guidance from leaders or other Resource Professionals as necessary on a relatively limited basis. They appropriately incorporate technical information from Scientists and scientific literature into management approaches and decisions.

This position will serve as a primary lead on Hells Canyon Complex (HCC) water quality compliance related to HCC 401-Certifcation and FERC license compliance. Primary duties include writing water quality monitoring plans, writing quality assurance project plans, data analysis and State and Federal compliance reporting using R. Additionally, a Senior Resource Professional mentors other environmental professionals and support staff as needed. They may also lead multiple or complex projects of a team of employees and/or contractors on a project basis.

A COMPETITIVE CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

Knowledge of:

General natural resources principles and the application of scientific data and analyses
General resource discipline as they relate to electric utility operations and business environment
Environmental rules and regulations and their application to natural resource management
Preferred:

o   Moderate to high-level of understanding and knowledge of natural resources principles and the application of scientific data and analyses

o   Moderate to high-level of specific knowledge related to resource discipline as they relate to electric utility operations and business environment

o   Background in the Clean Water Act including sections 401 and 303 and Oregon and Idaho water quality standards

Skills in:

Effective oral and written communication
Proficient use of computers and software related to position
Operation of common field equipment including but not limited to boats, UTVs, and ATVs
Ability to:

Manage and coordinate projects
Establish and maintain effective working relationships
Work both independently and on project teams
Develop alternatives and work with others to evaluate their value and potential for meeting company needs
Relate simple or moderately complex datasets and analyses to natural resource issues
Produce written and oral reports including evaluations of alternatives and recommendations

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Resource Professional

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or Biology from an accredited institution
OR

Equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred:

o   Master of Science degree in Natural resources or Environmental resources related field

Experience:

3 years of related experience
Preferred:

o   5 years of related experience

Licenses & Certifications:

Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position for all roles
Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card or the ability to obtain one prior to hire
Preferred:

o   Relevant professional societies or organizations

Senior Resource Professional

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or Biology from an accredited institution
Preferred:

o   Master of Science degree in Natural resources or Environmental resources related field

Experience:

8 years of related experience
Preferred:

o   10 years of related experience

Licenses & Certifications:

Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position for all roles
Department of Transportation (DOT) Medical Card or the ability to obtain one prior to hire
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position walks/hikes up to 1-3 miles on ascents/descents and at times on steep, unconsolidated slopes, in all seasons/weather conditions, (with the ability to take self-paced breaks when needed). A 40 lbs. backpack may be carried. Lifting of up to 50 lbs. to waist height, 50 lbs. shoulder height/overhead, and pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs. is performed occasionally. Squatting and crouching is performed occasionally. Stooping/bending, kneeling, reaching, and twisting is required frequently. Climbing is required occasionally onto/from equipment and machinery. Operation of ATVs, UTVs, and jet boats in river conditions, may be required to reach habitats. Job placement is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical evaluation, the Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certificate exam.
