North American Lake Management Society Announces 2024 Student Award Winners
MADISON, WI – Each year the North American Lake Management Society (NALMS) presents student awards to the best student presentation and best student poster at the annual NALMS symposium. The 2024 student awards were sponsored by the High Sierra Water Laboratory.
The NALMS Board of Directors renamed the student award as the Jody Connor Student Award in memory of Jody Connor, a long-time friend of NALMS who was active on the Education Committee and participated in the reviews of student presentations and posters. The first-place winners receive a check for $250 and a plaque, while the honorable mention or second place winners receive a plaque. The awards are based on scientific merit, research design, visual aids, clarity, and presentation.
We are delighted to share that the 2024 first-place oral presentation winner is Naivy Dennise Rodal Morales, University of California Merced, Merced, CA for her talk entitled “Hydrology and oxygen addition drive nutrients, metals, and methylmercury cycling in a hypereutrophic water supply reservoir.” The 2024 first-place poster presentation winner is Elijah Creedon, SUNY Oneonta, Oneonta, NY for his poster entitled “Characterizing Changes in Water Quality and Fish Communities in Two Connected, Adirondack Lakes” Congratulations to Naivy and Elijah for your excellent work!
We are also happy to share the 2024 Honorable Mention awards, for both oral and poster presentations! The 2024 honorable mention oral presentation winner is Julie Critchfield, for her talk entitled “Potential contribution of differential cooling to winter mixing and reoxygenation in deep oligotrophic lakes.” The 2024 honorable mention poster presentation winner is Corrin Clemons, for her poster entitled “Partitioning Methane Flux Pathways From Reservoirs in Mediterranean Climates.” Congratulations to Julie and Corrin!
We thank High Sierra Water Laboratory for sponsoring the student awards and for all of the students who presented and/or attended the NALMS symposium in South Lake Tahoe! We look forward to excellent student participation at the NALMS 2025 symposium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina!
