FreeAbout the Conference
This event began with the Shiga Conference on Conservation and Management of World Lake Environment in 1984, known as LECS’84. This first Conference held at Lake Biwa, Japan, had the objective of contributing and promoting scientific studies in the global management of lake basins.
The Conference has, since then, been recognized worldwide as a platform for participants from diverse areas to exchange views and experiences on the sustainable management of lakes and their basins.
The conferences have previously been organized in the United States, Hungary, China, Italy, Argentina, Denmark, Kenya, India, Indonesia, and Japan on a biannual basis.
At the 17th World Lake Conference held in Ibaraki in 2018, there were around 5,500 participants; 1,300 students and 1,000 foreigners participating in the Conference and 43,000 in the related site events.
