Webinar: Understanding and Managing Internal Phosphorus Loading in Lakes

September 30, 2020 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am CDT

Phosphorus (P) loading from the watershed is a problem for many lakes, but not just during the year it enters. Long-term inputs accumulate in the sediments under lakes and can be recycled by multiple processes. These legacy P loads can be the dominant source during summer and are linked to the increasing frequency and severity of cyanobacteria blooms. Control of internal loading is a matter of removing the sediment or keeping the P in it from being released, with several options available. This webinar will explore internal P loading, its link to cyanobacteria blooms, and methods to reduce internal P loading.

Presenters:
Alan Steinman, Ph.D., Grand Valley State University, Michigan
Ken Wagner, Ph.D.,  Water Resource Services, Massachusetts
Miquel Lurling, Ph.D., Wageningen University, The Netherlands

Each presentation will be about 20 minutes in length, the remainder of the time will be for discussion and questions.
