Starting at mid-day on Wednesday, November 16, the 5-kilometer run or walk takes participants on a route along the Mississippi River. You need not be a runner to participate! Meet in the main entrance of the Minneapolis Marriott City Center at 11:45 am. Entry fee is $30. A box lunch will be provided to runners who sign up at least 2 days prior to the run.

Attention Student Members!

Student members of NALMS who participate in the Clean Lakes Classic are automatically eligible to receive $500 for use toward their education thanks to the Kenneth H. Reckhow Scholarship Fund. See below for full details:

Kenneth H. Reckhow Scholarship Fund

Established through the generosity and kindness of Life Member, Dr. Kenneth Reckhow, the Kenneth H. Reckhow Scholarship Fund provides financial support to graduate students to use toward their education.

With a unique tie-in to a NALMS tradition and Dr. Reckhow’s personal history with the Society, the scholarship winners will be directly linked with an event that occurs each year at the NALMS annual symposium. Beginning with the 2021 Clean Lakes Classic 5K Run/Walk, one female and one male graduate student participant in the event will be randomly selected to receive $500 for use toward their education.

“Along with NALMS members, Denny Cooke and Gene Welch, I was part of the pre-NALMS conferences in Madison, Minneapolis, and East Lansing, leading to the 1980 meeting in Portland. Steve Chapra and I established the first shortcourse for NALMS; and of course, there is the Clean Lakes Classic. NALMS helped me grow as a scientist. These are just a few of the great memories that I have, which makes me want to give back to NALMS through this scholarship fund.” – Dr. Kenneth Reckhow
