Description
Watching and complaining about the weather are revered human pastimes. Amateur weather-watchers everywhere have noticed that weather extremes are the norm these days. Extreme drought, record snowfalls, and torrential rains seem to be common, and 2008 is on track to set a record for the number of tornadoes in the U.S. The climate is changing. Whether this change is part of a longer natural cycle or is anthropogenic in nature is hotly debated.
If climate change models are true, and some say such models may actually under-predict future climate change, scientists predict significant changes to water resources as we know them. In this issue of LakeLine, we’ve asked leading scientists to discuss the real and potential impacts of climate change on lakes, rivers, and streams, and groundwater.
