Description
In this issue of LakeLine we celebrate the 40th anniversary of NALMS, and take a look at where we started, some major milestones along the way, and what we are doing now to ensure the future of NALMS.
Our anniversary year has certainly been a tumultuous one, what with a pandemic, wild economic swings, social discord, and different parts of the country and the world dealing with drought, fires, damaging storms, and more. One thing that was likely quite obvious is that more people were staying local, and reacquainting themselves with the natural resources at hand, in their own states, provinces, and towns. This meant that a lot of people were taking to local waterbodies, visiting beaches, boating and otherwise getting near, on, or in the water.
The hope is that everyone, everywhere, has the choice and option to visit an accessible and healthy waterbody, but that may not always be the case. For this reason, there are many people working to protect or rehabilitate lake systems. NALMS continues to serve as a nexus for citizens, scientists, regulators and others who are involved in this important work, as you will see in the articles included in this issue of LakeLine.
